Heirloom-Remodel

Jewellery remodelling is an increasingly popular side of our business with one lady recently remodelling a 6ct diamond brooch into a breathtaking engagement ring, doubling the value of the heirloom.

Remodelling jewellery, often referred to as ‘recycling’ or ‘restyling’ is just that. Old or unwanted jewellery can be remodelled into a new piece using the existing gemstones and metals. It can be a more cost effective way of receiving a new piece of jewellery.

We have increasingly noticed that the majority of our remodelling business is based on jewellery that clients have inherited.  ‘Recycling’ such jewellery retains the sentimental aspect lost if the items are sold. Rather than such jewellery wasting away in a jewellery box re-making it into a piece that will be cherished and worn can be an attractive proposition.

After inheriting a diamond brooch and it simply gathering dust in a jewellery box for decades, a Harrogate based lady decided to come and see Christopher Stoner. The client wanted to know if the main diamond in the brooch could be used to make a diamond engagement ring for her daughter. As an heirloom which has been in the family for generations, it meant a lot to our client to pass this diamond on to her daughter and for it to be retained within the family. More importantly, the client was over the moon that the heirloom could be re-created into a wearable piece of jewellery as the diamond was too large to be worn as a brooch. Unbeknown to the family, once the new engagement ring was created it was worth double the brooch’s original value. Remodelling the brooch breathed new life into an unworn family heirloom.

Jewellery remodelling certainly makes the term ‘recycling’ a lot more exciting! For more information please visit http://www.christopherstoner.com/jewellery-re-modelling.html
