So many women dream of receiving a 1.00ct ring and it often seems to be the one characteristic of a diamond many men are aware of.  If you’re looking for a 1.00ct diamond engagement ring here is some helpful information.

What does a 1.00ct diamond ring actually mean?

Often a misconception is that the reference to carat relates to diamond size. But in actual fact a carat refers to the measure of a diamond’s weight. Each carat is divided into 100 ‘points’. For example 0.50ct is 50 points and 1.00ct is 100 points.

The more a diamond weighs the more expensive it becomes. For this reason, a 1.00ct diamond ring can be rather expensive particularly if it is of high quality.

It is also important to distinguish between ‘total carat weight’ and ‘carat weight of a single diamond’. The total carat weight takes into account the weight of all the diamonds in a particular piece of jewellery. For example, you may have a three stone diamond ring with a total diamond weight of 1.00ct but each individual diamond has a carat weight of 0.33ct.  This is something you should be aware of when choosing a 1.00ct diamond engagement ring.

What does a 1.00ct diamond ring look like?

Among any factors we look for when selecting a diamond are the stone measurements.  With no two diamonds ever being the same, the weight becomes an important issue. The key measurements to look for when selecting the perfect diamond are the length, width, and the ratio between the two. This can have a substantial impact on the how big a diamond looks. For example, the ideal measurements for a 1.00ct diamond are 6.5mm by 4mm. But 1.00ct diamonds can measure anything from 5.9mm. So if you decide you want a 1.00ct diamond engagement ring, it is important to take the measurements into consideration as there can be a substantial visual difference in the size between two 1.00ct diamonds i.e between one which measures 6.5mm in length and another which is 5.9mm.  Therefore,  you should select a 1.00ct diamond which meets the ideal measurements of 6.5mm by 4mm to ensure you are receiving value for your money.

How much does a 1.00ct single stone diamond engagement ring cost?

There is no exact answer to this question as various factors can affect the price of a 1.00ct diamond engagement ring which include:

  • The cut, clarity and colour of the diamond
  • The measurements of the diamond
  • Whether the diamond is certified

The price range is rather broad as you could find a 1.00ct diamond engagement ring from anything from a few thousand pounds to in excess  of £20,000. Roughly speaking, for a good quality, GIA certified diamond you would be looking at around £10,000.
